Every nation has a specialty of its own. From country to country there are lots of things which you can only find in as single place. For example, if you want to enjoy all the Catholic festivals then Italy is the place, if you want to have a blast at Halloween then USA is the place, however, things festivals are enjoyed by the nation as a whole. This is where the difference comes when Spain enters the scenario of festivals. The country of Spain is very popular for its Fiestas. But the main thing which makes these Fiestas so popular is that it takes place in almost all the cities of Spain and every city has a special Fiesta of its own. However, one of the biggest events which happen in one of the most famous cities of Spain is the Las Fallas which takes place in Valencia.
If you like smoke, the strong smell of gunpowder, fire and wild activities then Las Fallas is the place to be. It is one of the wildest events of the year in Spain where people go mad and rowdy with excitement. Las Fallas is the craziest festival in Spain, this festival was supposed to be a feast day for the famous St. Joseph but now it has transformed into a wild celebration of fire. Valencia is actually a very quiet city where around half a million people reside. During the Las Fallas, the quietness goes away with the burning city. The word Las Fallas in Valencian actually means “the Fires”. The main object of the festival is the creation and at the same time destruction of huge wooden, cardboard and plastic statues, which are placed all around the city on different parks and intersections. These statues are known as ninots. These ninots are actually lifelike and depict and represent the ongoing political scenes and latest events. Mostly, the ninots includes corrupt politicians and celebrities of Spain. These huge statues are made by neighbourhood organizations, and usually they take around 6 months to be constructed.
The ninots, which are the main attraction of the whole festival are kept in their places till the 19th of March, this day is known as “La Crema”. In the evening, holes are made in the ninots and then these holes are stuffed with firecrackers. Then the chanting starts and the street lights of the whole city is switched off out. And exactly at 12 in the night all the ninots in the city are burnt. The best part is that even after such mass destruction of the ninots not a single building is damaged, all the credit goes to the local firemen who have made a way to avoid any mishap. Every year one out of all the ninots, which gets the most popularity is not burnt and then it is placed in the local museum with other ninots which were spared from destruction before. The whole mechanism of this huge event is a big thing in itself.
