One of the most interesting places to be in, The Basque Coast provides the tourists with maple opportunities of indulging in sports and natural activities. The beach is full of fine sand and is attracts the tourists for its ecological environment. For the tourists everything is possible in the Basque Coast. The two towns named Bayonne and Biarritz will surely keep to the expectation of the tourists while providing them with several more attractive places to visit.
According to the tourists the local people of the island are very friendly. The only suspected problem that can be faced by the tourists is the English skill of the people. This is due to the people mainly speaking Spanish and French among them. Even most of the restaurants out there in the island provide menus printed in French. Biarritz: This is one of the towns and is known for connecting the area with Norway. During the 12th century the place was used as farming and fishing with whale hunting the main task. It was until 17th century when the hunters had to move towards Newfoundland for hunting whales. In the beginning of the 19th century Biarritz gained the image of one of the most popular seaside resorts. The town is located at a distance of about 18 kilometres from Spain’s border and comes under the governance of French Basque country. With a population of about 30,000 people, the town has mainly concentrated in providing the tourists with sporting activities which mainly include surfing and golf. The tourists can actively take part in the annual surfing event named Biarritz surf festival. This annual event takes place in the La Cote des Basques beach. This is the place where the tourists can also witness some international as well as congresses fests. The main beach located in the town is known as the Grande Plage, which is also one of the most popular surfing spots of Europe.
Bayonne: Unlike Biarritz, this is a much quieter town with splendid architecture and astonishing beauty. Located at the banks of Adour and Nive River, Bayonne has been divided into Petit Bayonne and Grand Bayonne by Nive River. Nive forms the heart of the with most of the restaurants, covered market and squares located at its bank. Houses located at the banks are best examples of Basque architecture. Most of these houses are made of timber and shutters painted in red and green colours. With a population of about 45,000 people this city forms the capital of the region providing economical, judicial, religious and administrative services. The tourists should be sure to have a taste of the mouth-watering chocolate manufactured in this region known as Freia Mjelkesjokolade.
