Barro Colorado Island is the largest island in Lake Gatum which was seen due to the breaking of canal which raised the water level and the peace of land was isolated from the water forming the Barro Colorado Island. There were different researches taking place in the island. The scientist named James Zetek actually visualised the importance of this island and made it a biological reserve. By giving an identity as biological reserve, soon it gained a reputation in the minds of people and it became the centre for the study of biology. Later the importance of this island increased to great extend and different protection measures were taken by the different institution for protecting the wild life as well objects, regions etc.
This place offers the tourist the best opportunity to splendour the dense tropical forest. it is having the largest forest considering the islands. The wildlife in this island is diversified.
