Spain is famous for its nightlife. Spaniards take pride in their wild night time activities, especially in the larger cities like Madrid and Barcelona and in tourist areas like Ibiza and Valencia. Late night dancing and parties begin after dinner, and often end in the wee hours of the morning. Young people are known to party the night away, night after night, although Monday and Tuesday nights are relatively quiet. In fact, most clubs don’t get lively until after one in the morning – and many keep lively until it’s time to go home and get ready for work at the legal closing time of 6 a.m. In addition to the clubs and discos, there are bars with a different, more relaxed beat, including sports bars, hotels bars, and Irish pubs.

Spaniards dress up for a night of dancing and clubbing. In the most fashionable clubs, cover charges, including entrance and a drink, can be as much as 20 Euro’s, though women sometimes enter for free. Entrance charges vary according to the day of the week, with Saturday being the most costly.

Jamboree and Schilling are two clubs worth visiting in Barcelona; for more nightlife ideas, check out ‘Barcelona Weekly.’ ‘In Madrid’ is an English-language guide to that city’s happenings. For a look at some wild clubs and urbane bars, visit the clubs in Madrid’s El Centro neighbourhood. If you are arriving in Spain on a Mediterranean cruise ship, ask the cruise director where to find interesting nightlife. They will know the trendy hot spots and may even have coupons for free drinks.

Food is very important in Spanish culture. Dining takes on its own rhythm, with the evening meal often stretching into the early hours of the morning. Lunch is the main meal of the day, after which the country shuts down for the siesta, an afternoon rest period, when many people return home to sleep during the heat of the day.

Much of the Spanish cuisine comes from the sea, although Spanish dishes reflect each region’s culture, geography, history, and climate. In Madrid, for example, produce, including berries and melons, is used liberally in the cooking. North Africa cuisine has also influenced Spanish cooking. Rice and beans are important components of many dishes throughout Spain, but particularly around Barcelona. Stews and soups are popular, based on beans, vegetables, meat or fish, and often served as the main part of the meal. Spain produces rich wines, which are incorporated into meals, both as an ingredient as well as in a glass alongside the meal. Many wines are drunk young as well as aged.

Special Spanish dishes include Paella, a rice dish served with meat or shellfish that is often flavoured with saffron. In some regions, such as in Valencia, paella is served once a week when the family gets together for a large Sunday meal. Ratatouille is a rich vegetable stew, served hot or cold, made with aubergine, courgettes, garlic, tomatoes and peppers. Other well-known Spanish dishes include Chorizo, spicy sausages made from pork and beef; gazpacho, a cold tomato-based soup rich with chopped peppers, onions, and cucumbers; potato omelettes called tortilla de patata; empanada, filled pastries stuffed with meat or fish; garlic soup, which is a speciality in Castille, and rice pudding and custards.

Spain is an ultimate tourist destination. It is Europe’s one of the most important country. Spain has been serving the tourists of the whole world for a period unknown. The greatness of this country lies in the fact that this country has been invaded by different invaders innumerable times but still it has restored its own culture and also the culture of those who came here. Spain has a lot to offer to the whole world especially when it comes to coastal areas. You will find the best of beaches and the best of sea food. However, the list of things which lures all the tourists to come to Spain is rather a long one, other than the beaches there are a lot of things to explore. The cuisines of Spain are known all over the world; people from distant places just came here sometimes to relish various local cuisines. The best part is that that all the cities have something different to offer. And its not only about the food, the wines out here also are something which cannot be missed. Seville is the city which is quiet popular for its food and wine.

The main cuisine of Seville is based on home cooking. The most common and the best dishes are the stuffed Artichokes, fried fish, flamenco eggs and sauté kidneys which are served with sherry. All the above mentioned dishes are main specialities of Malaga, Cadiz and Seville. The people of Seville are not that much into restaurants but then also there are a good number of restaurants in Seville which serve food of Spanish, Andalucian and international taste. The most common way of eating out here in this city is eating a chain of small cuisines; this is popularly known as “ir de tapeo”. This is mostly done amongst group of friends. There are a large number of dishes which you would like to savour and for that the best thing to do is to taste as many dishes you can in small portions.

In the summer the most common dishes are chopped pork, salads, Salmorejo and Gazpacho; these dishes are the best way of beating the heat. Among other dishes ham of Huelva and the fried fish and prawns of Sanlucar are very famous. All these dishes taste best when they are accompanied with the local wine for example the Manzanilla, sherry, Montilla and who can forget the golden beer. Almost all the cities of Seville have bars which also serve one of the best Tapas available. The bars are of different kinds, some are open air and some are located on terraces from where you can enjoy the flowing river. At some places you can buy fried fish from shops and enjoy.

Every meal must have a good end and for that matter Sevillian desserts are great. The cortadillos de cidra, the candied egg yolks, sponge cake, crumbles are some of the most known desserts. Home made sweets like the Ganotes, bread fitters and Pestinos are also amazing.

Spanish Cuisine

Spanish cuisine is popular all over the world, for the unique taste that it has to offer to gluttons. Since, Spain is quite a large country; there are a huge variety of delicacies that form a part of the Spanish cuisine. The various dishes in the Spanish cuisine have emerged mainly because of the differences in the culture, the climate and in fact the geographical areas in which people live, through out the country. Apart from this, Spanish cuisine is also in a major way influenced by its own Mediterranean origin. Thus, you will notice that Spanish food consists of several seafood dishes.

Other than this, Spanish food is also influenced greatly by its own history and the rulers of different origin who ruled the land. Thus, you will come across dishes that are similar in taste to the Arab and Jewish ones. The Muslims and the Romans have also had a strong influence on the eating habits of the Spaniards. Nonetheless, Pork is one of the most popular foods in the country and in fact, for a long time, Christians were identified as the one’s who eat pork.

Today the eating habits of people in Spain are also greatly influenced by the American cuisine and eating habits. Thus, today, you will find Spaniards indulging in potatoes; beans, pepper and tomatoes, and their cooking habits have also changed in a great way, thanks to the introduction of ‘Americanism’ in a country.

Ingredients of Spanish Cuisine

Olive Oil is one of the most important ingredients of the Spanish cuisine, which is not surprising, considering that Spain is responsible for the production of more than 44% of the olives from all over the world.

Even today most Spaniards prefer to eat meals that are traditionally prepared. One of the most important aspects of traditionally cooked meals is that the meals are prepared with fresh herbs. Thus, most Spanish households do not have herbs that are stored, people in fact preferred going to the local market and buying fresh herbs for all their meals. Nevertheless, more and more people, are opening up to the ideology and going ahead and purchasing food that is ready to eat and available in the market. This move started with bread, which was earlier prepared in the Spanish households itself.

Onions and Garlic are the most important ingredients that are used for seasoning. Salads are eaten preferably in the summers. Bread is served with almost all of the meals in Spain; most deserts in Spain consist of fruits and dairy products.

Going Out To Eat in Spain

When you go out to have a drink or two in the several bars tat Spain houses, you will also be served with Tapas. In fact, most bars in Spain serve something edible with the drinks. Other than this, another hot favourite of the Spanish are the Chuuro that are usually had in combination with a hot mug of thick chocolate. Most restaurants in Spain also feature a band or singers that entertain you while you enjoy a scrumptious Spanish meal.
